West Arlington Covered Bridge on Flickr.
The cables attached to the side of the West Arlington covered bridge are designed to help keep the bridge from being blown off its abutments in the high winds that frequently sweep through the Batten Kill Valley. It’s been blown over before. One story says that the bridge was blown over and locals walked and rode across the side of the bridge until it could be put right again.

About Me
Unless I’m confusing it with the East Arlington covered bridge, there is a small sign on the bridge, proclaiming a $1 fine for driving faster than a walk.
